Pakatan leaders doubt sex video’s verity
They say BN is trying to shift attention from major issues as Sarawak election looms.
KUALA LUMPUR: Pakatan Rakyat leaders today questioned the authenticity of a video clip that its promoters claim show opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim having illicit sex. Many of them believe that the screening of the video by a man calling himself “Datuk T” was to divert attention from major problems facing Barisan Nasional as it prepares for the Sarawak state election.
“We all know BN is very desperate” said PKR vice-president Chua Tian Chang.
“Again, they are shifting attention from major issues. They want to keep Sarawak. So, they are shifting to personal attacks.”
Datuk T showed the 21-minute video to the media this morning. Many of those who watched it said they saw a man resembling Anwar having sex with a woman with Chinese features.
Datuk T was with several companions, all of whom kept their identities secret. But they told the media that they would show the video to Anwar and his wife, PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Ismail, in a week’s time for them to ascertain the identity of the man in the clip.
PKR supreme council member Johari Abdul said Anwar could not be the man in the video.
“Logic will tell you that a man who is 63, with a backache and facing all these troubles, having a family and is an opposition leader, would not do it,” he said.
Election ploy
The video has surfaced on the day that the Sarawak state assembly is dissolved. Elections must be held within 60 days. Many pundits believe BN’s performance in the state election will determine whether the 13th general election will be held soon.
“The timing is definitely convenient,” Perak DAP chief Nga Kor Ming said. “I think it is clearly politically motivated in view of the dissolution of the Sarawak assembly today.”
Neither Chua nor Johari nor Nga has watched the video, but they said they believed it was BN’s work.
“We have no clue at the moment, but it would not be surprising that BN can go down to this low level, like what we have seen happened to Elizabeth Wong,” said Nga, referring to the Selangor PKR executive councillor whose naked pictures were revealed to the media.
The Shah Alam MP from PAS, Khalid Samad, said it was obvious that BN was trying to do everything to smear Anwar’s name.
“As the sodomy allegation is failing, they are now trying to smear his name by this fresh allegation,” he said.
But in a country obsessed with sex and scandals, gutter politics have been the norm from both sides of the political divide.
Prior to the exposure of Wong’s pictures, the opposition had made much of the sex video involving current MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek.
Minister in the Prime Minister Department Nazri Aziz said it was typical of the opposition to blame everything on the ruling coalition.
“What is new? It is always like that, isn’t it? They got their own problems, they also say it is BN. Everything is BN.
“Anything that involves BN MPs is a fact, but anything that concerns them is a conspiracy. Make up your mind. Who is right or wrong? I think the rakyat is clever now.” (FMT)
